Due to growth and the expansion of our Accounting Operations team an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lead Financial Accountant to be appointed within our Finance Division, located at our Market Street, Sydney CBD office.

Reporting to the Manager Accounting Control, this role will be responsible for the leadership of a team of three to ensure accounting operational processes are managed in an accurate and timely manner and financial control standards are maintained for Allianz Australia Ltd and subsidiaries.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will deliver the following role objectives:

Financial Control

  • Responsible for accurate and timely processing of financial records in GL and relevant controls are performing as designed
  • Review Balance Sheet reconciliations performed by team and responsible for timely resolution of variances
  • Ensure governance and escalation processes are in place for Balance Sheet reconciliation control and report variances to management
  • Ensure Underwriting Agency bordereau and settlement controls are performed and agency financial control environment are reviewed periodically.
  • Responsible for controls of levies and commission payments
  • Perform valuation and business cases as assigned

Process Improvements & Change

  • Deliver process improvements to accounting process to gain efficiency
  • Make changes to finance process and systems to adopt to changes in business and insurance schemes

Team Management

  • Lead, develop and motivate the team to strive for continuous improvement and business steering in performing their roles
  • Ensure team has adequate understanding of business processes, insurance schemes and technical accounting skills needed to perform their roles effectively

About You:

The successful applicant will be an accomplished and results driven Accountant, possessing the following experience and skills:

  • CA or CPA qualified
  • Minimum 3 years post qualification experience within the Insurance sector
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge with balance sheet reconciliations
  • Proven experience managing and developing staff
  • High level stakeholder management and business partnering skills and experience
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft office Excel
