Our Technical division is responsible for product development, pricing, portfolio management, reinsurance and underwriting services. We support our distribution functions through the improvement of the product and pricing framework for all of the Allianz General Insurance portfolios.

An exciting opportunity is now available for an Underwriting Review Manager to be appointed at our Sydney CBD office, reporting to the Senior Manager - Underwriting Services

About the Role:                                                                                                                 

The key objective for this role is to provide support and guidance around reviews of internal underwriting departments, including agencies, throughout Allianz Australia. The objective of these reviews is one of continuous improvement of the Underwriting Asset which is a source of competitive advantage for Allianz Australia.

The functions of this role include undertaking onsite reviews of each underwriting department on a regular basis, sample testing, liaising with underwriters, product managers and business partners, drafting reports to document the findings of reviews as well as recommendations for improvement and following up on action items in due course to ensure that they are implemented.

Key Deliverables and Responsibilities:

  • Work with Product Managers and Underwriters to undertake technical underwriting reviews, to identify underwriting issues and recommend corrective action as required.
  • Develop and maintain an Underwriting Review Program to ensure that all General Insurance business units are reviewed for technical underwriting compliance in accordance with Group timing requirements.
  • Completing the required number of Technical underwriting reviews that are escalated via the Underwriting Services hierarchy ultimately for agreement with the Chief Technical Officer for the specified period.
  • Follow up underwriting reviews of business units where significant breaches or training requirements have been identified and agreed.
  • Regularly monitor and review underwriting procedures and practices in the business operating environment to ensure adherence to guidelines, whilst recommending new/modified practices that might help to improve output and compliance with business rules. 
  • Identify Underwriting /Technical issues and understand how they will impact the business, and collaborate with the business on what course of action should be taken.
  • Through the underwriting review process measure the degree of compliance with Company guidelines in order to ensure the quality of underwriting remains at a satisfactory level. .
  • Adhere to all company risk and compliance operational procedures
  • Work closely with Risk and Compliance Centre of Excellence to ensure Technical Division meet Allianz compliance framework
  • Reviewing relevant regulatory and legislative changes in order to assess the impact to business processes and any corresponding impact on underwriting processes within the General Insurance business.

 About You:

The successful applicant will possess the following attributes, skills and experience: 

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in underwriting auditing controls or similar with high level understanding of GI underwriting guidelines, processes and authorities.
  • Detailed knowledge of the General Insurance market
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Underwriting with exposure to Commercial and Corporate risks.
  • Undergraduate Business/Commerce degree qualifications and/or formal insurance qualifications
  • Highly proficient knowledge of Insurance Contracts Act, Consumer Protection and Competition Laws, GI Code of Practice and other relevant compliance legislation and regulation or codes.
  • High proficiency and experience working with GI pricing and rating methods and calculations.
