  • Seeking a candidate with a strong underwriting background with a wide exposure to commercial and corporate risks

Our Broker & Agency Division in Perth are seeking an experienced underwriter to join our team on a fixed term basis.

As the Underwriting Manager, you will lead the WA Underwriting Team which is primarily responsible for monitoring, underwriting and managing business in accordance with the State Business Unit Plan and Underwriting guidelines.

There will be a need to work closely with the Underwriting Operations Manager in our South Australia (SA) operation to ensure that we are effectively and efficiently managing the WA and SA renewal portfolios.

About the role:

  • Reporting into the WA State Manager, work with Management and the Underwriting teams to undertake analysis, identify underwriting issues and take corrective action as required
  • Work effectively with the Underwriting Control Manager and Development Management teams to develop capability and maximise retention of Renewal Book
  • Collaborate with the Account Management team to support maintaining strong Broker relationships, provision of service standards and to capitalise on business opportunities
  • Achieve internal collaboration and alignment by supporting effective "One Allianz" sales practices.
  • Develop and implement strategies and action plans to improve profitability
  • Monitor quality of own and other's work, check that underwriting procedures are being followed correctly and work with the Underwriting Controls Manager to correct any variances
  • Monitor performance to ensure key financial indicators (sales, profit and processing) are achieved.
  • Maximise retention of preferred accounts. Liaise with internal stakeholders on renewal management to ensure compliance to plan for retention and targeted growth
  • Effectively lead & manage team of Underwriters to accomplish organisational goals

About you:

  • Extensive experience in Underwriting with wide exposure to both Commercial and Corporate risks
  • Proven experience in leading teams and coaching others
  • An ability to embed best practice processes and monitor to ensure ongoing success
  • Tailored Line of Business (Property, Liability & Motor Fleet) Insurance experience
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at all levels
  • Analytical mindset with a strong data analysis background
  • Excellent reporting and presentation skills
