Due to business growth and demand, we are currently seeking to appoint a Reinsurance Claims Technician, to join our Technical division based at our Market Street, Sydney CBD office.

About the Role:

The primary purpose of this role is to advise and update losses to reinsurers and reinsurance brokers.

There are a number of different facets to the role which will require that you have knowledge of multiple lines of business both in the General and Life insurance products. 

This will include understanding original policy conditions, claims handling procedures and financial transactions including treatment of tax. Overlying this will be the requirement to be able to technically review how a claim or claims impact a reinsurance contract. This will require a full understanding of a reinsurance contract and where applicable its relevant wording.

Key role objectives will include but not be limited to: 

  • Completion of various governmental and regulatory returns and review of entire portfolios to ensure correct application of reinsurance.
  • Understanding the more technical aspect of reinsurance and original policy conditions and assist with renewals.
  • Review data extracts for reinsurance application and any potential leakage.
  • Where commutations are reviewed, assist and be involved in the process.
  • Review Legal, Medical, Adjusters reports and Court Judgements prior to submission to reinsurers, along with any other relevant documents.
  • Review of large events that may or may not be part of a Catastrophe and the control of a portfolio of losses.

About You:

The successful applicant will have worked within the insurance sector previously, with an understanding of General and Life Insurance products and may have previously worked in customer service, claims or an analyst role or similar.

You will have a keen interest in developing a career within the insurance sector, as well as having excellent written communication skills and the ability to write and develop reporting.

We are also seeking applicants with exceptional customer management skills and high level service delivery to both internal and external clients.

 Essential Criteria: 

  • 3 years Reinsurance experience or minimum 3 years claims/UW/broking experience in a wide cross section of business lines
  • Computer skills in particular Excel to a high level and data analysis skills
  • High level attention to detail
  • Ability to interact and collaborate with internal colleagues and stakeholders at different levels
  • Extensive reinsurance claims experience would be highly desirable
