About the Role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Risk Advisory Manager to be appointed within our Risk and Compliance Division, located at our Market Street, Sydney CBD office.

Reporting to the Senior Risk Manager, this role will be responsible for providing analysis, opinion and recommendations surrounding the first line of defence management of underwriting risk and its associated operational risk classes.

The Risk Advisory Manager will be an expert in the relevant risks.  This includes the coordination and review of divisional and business unit risk assessment and risk monitoring, analysis of operational losses, risk and compliance incidents and near misses, aggregation and consolidation to an enterprise view and preparation of reporting for management.

Key Role Objectives:

  • Systematic review and validation of the effectiveness of controls in place for business unit management of risk, including recommending improvements.
  • Risk analysis and assessment – conducting appropriate analysis on root cause, trends and assist the business in identifying control improvements.
  • Working with Line 1 Risk Owners/Process Owners to conduct relevant risk assessments and risk monitoring activities, including preparation and collation of loss analysis and other workshop or presentation materials.
  • Advise 1st and 2nd Line and provide healthy changes on topics related to relevant risk classes.
  • Assist with the risk management education program to provide practical training and awareness of risk treatments, controls and related activities.
  • Ongoing monitoring and quarterly reporting on relevant risk classes, including providing an assessment against set risk appetite.
  • Identify current and emerging risks relating to relevant risk classes.  Provide an input into the annual Top Risk Assessment process and contribute in stakeholder meetings.

About You:

The successful applicant will be an accomplished and results driven Operational Risk and Compliance Manager, possessing the following experience and skills: 

  • Experience working in a similar role in Underwriting, General Insurance, Life Insurance and/or other insurance product lines.
  • High level stakeholder management and engagement skills
  • Ability and experience in providing education and training around risk management and awareness.
  • High level written and verbal communication skills, including exceptional report writing ability
  • Experience with developing and documenting risk management policies and procedures
  • High level attention to detail and time management skills
