We are seeking an engaging and energetic corporate lawyer to join our in house legal team based in our Sydney CBD offices. The role is responsible for the provision of high quality legal services to the board and senior management on matters relating to the governance of the Allianz Australia Group and major transactions entered into by the Group in relation to its enterprise wide assets and infrastructure and its operating systems and processes. Our team regularly takes leadership of large and complex legal matters with strategic importance to the Allianz Australia Group.

Reporting to the Executive Legal Counsel - Head Office Legal, this role also provides legal support, in those areas, to the Board, Managing Director and Senior Management.


As a key member of the Head Office Legal Team, you will be responsible for providing legal services in relation to areas which fall within the team's responsibility, which include:

  • Matters of governance, including:
    • readiness for the introduction of the anticipated Executive Accountability Regime for insurance companies and other non-bank financial institutions (equivalent to BEAR for banks)
    • the implementation of Allianz's regulatory and governance self-assessment program
    • M&A, corporate restructures and joint ventures
    • Assisting our procurement and operations teams with the acquisition of assets and services by the group (excluding IT assets, which are handled by a specialist team)
    • Investment of funds including arrangements with fund and investment managers
    • Competition and anti-trust issues
    • Corporate HR and employment matters
    • Insurance arrangements for the Allianz Australia Group, including D&O and professional indemnity insurances
    • General commercial matters concerning the Group

About You

The successful applicant will be a high achiever with the following experience and attributes:

  • 5-10 years post qualification experience in an in-house role and/or at senior associate level or above in a large law firm
  • Strong experience in general corporate work, preferably with some experience in M&A
  • Conscientious with strong attention to detail
  • The ability to work both autonomously and as a member of a team
  • A willingness to embrace change
  • A strong commitment to an inclusive culture
