This role sits within our Technical Division which is responsible for pricing, portfolio management, reinsurance and underwriting services. We support the distribution functions through the improvement of the product and pricing framework for all of the Allianz General Insurance portfolios.

The Head of Property will report to the GM for Commercial Products & Portfolios and will be asked to define and execute a clear vision and strategy for a Commercial Property portfolio

You'll be expected to:

  • Lead Portfolio Steering Groups for the Property product.
  • Drive and monitor technical and financial results for the Property portfolio.
  • Set underwriting guidelines and risk appetite for the Property portfolio.
  • Design, monitor and oversee governance of products for the Property portfolio and other portfolios such as Commercial Packages.
  • Be the technical expert on all Property-related matters for Allianz Australia, including Emerging Risks and Global Group activity.
  • Lead the development and provision of Property related communication, training and guidance as required.
  • Facilitate the business planning process, based on key strategic issues and drivers for the Property portfolio.

Important to your success:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline supported by relevant insurance industry qualifications and ANZIIF (or equivalent) accreditations.
  • Extensive product/product line or portfolio leadership and/or underwriting experience for a general insurance organisation.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of Commercial property underwriting guidelines, underwriting licences, internal control and governance policies and frameworks.
  • Demonstrated in-depth understanding of strategy development and or working with multiple teams to align strategy with organisational vision and in translating vision to action to achieve desired results.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish budgets, manage expenses to budget and to develop management plans for a portfolio.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of governance requirements and frameworks as well as portfolio sensitive legislation and regulations.
  • Demonstrated commercial acumen by using insights related to the market, opportunities, risks and competitors within the insurance industry as well as the dynamic levers that influence these factors.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of communicating with audiences at all levels with clarity, impact and influence.
  • Proven experience in mentoring and coaching cross-divisional teams.
  • Proven ability to articulate a customer centric culture and exemplify behaviours at all levels of the organisation.
  • Adept at proactively building and maintaining professional relationships and networks to enhance industry positioning, exchange knowledge and elicit beneficial outcomes.

Whilst this role would ideally be performed out of the Sydney Head Office, there is scope for the right person to operate out of another location.
