Applications Database Administrator 

Allianz Australia is looking to engage an Applications Database Administrator to sit within our IT Development team based in our new state-of-the-art offices in North Sydney.

The Applications Database Administrator is crucial in ensuring the delivery of high quality application software solutions that are fit for purpose and meet Business Users requirements.

The successful candidate will deliver the following role objectives and deliverables:

  • Maintain and ensure the smooth running of databases in non-production development environments in (allocating disk space for database objects, partitioning and balancing drives for performance, re-balancing system index structures etc.) 
  • Work with operations to ensure consistency across development and managed test environments.
  • Drive process innovation and automation to improve consistency of changes across environments.
  • Drive process innovation and automation to improve the movement of data across mainframe and development DB2 databases.
  • Recommend structural changes de-normalisation where required to ensure performance.
  • Profile application databases during to avoid long running queries.
  • Verify database configuration cache and memory parameters for optimal performance.
  • Work with Infrastructure & Operations team to ensure effective development processes and effective promotion of database changes to production environments

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills, experience and attributes:

  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to effectively liaise with and influence diverse stakeholder groups across both the Business and IT.
  • Extensive exposure in an application database administration within a complex environment, ideally within Financial Services or the Insurance sector
  • 3+ years DB2 v9+ database administration on linux
  • Familiar with linux and OS administration
  • 3+ years' experience in Data Modelling
  • Comfortable with scripting languages (sql, shell script, ant)
  • Familiarity with monitoring and profiling JDBC based connections and queries.
  • ‎3+ years' experience with structured ‎‎(Iterative or Agile Scrum) SDLC processes
  •  Knowledge of java, shell script, python, Jenkins/Bamboo, Subversion/GIT, Maven will be ideal but not necessary
