The Broker & Agency division is Allianz Australia's largest distribution channel whose customers include Commercial, Corporate and international buyer groups throughout Australia and New Zealand.

We currently have an opening for an Underwriter to support and assist the broader team in providing commodity and tailored lines quotations for new business and renewals according to agreed service standards.

What you should expect:

This role will suit a candidate who has had exposure to SME underwriting, has excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills and is looking to progress their career with a leading global insurer.

Reporting to the Underwriting Manager, you will underwrite insurance risks in your area of responsibility, adhering to underwriting guidelines and standards.

It will be your responsibility to:

  • Effectively manage Renewals, Policy Maintenance and assist on New Business where required.
  • Make recommendations on risks that exceed your authority and prepare escalations (sign-off) ensuring referral is accurate, thorough & balanced in terms of achieving desired profitable growth.
  • Provide back-up support to the broader team as required
  • Underwrite insurance risks in area of responsibility, adhering to underwriting guidelines and standards
  • Ensure business bound is aligned with divisional objectives and portfolio balance (growth and profit)
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders within Branch and other Allianz divisions, such as Claims, ARCA and Technical.
  • Adhere to all company risk and compliance operational procedures.

Important to your success

  • You will ideally have 3 years or more experience in a similar role with SME/ Personal Lines underwriting experience.
  • Exposure to tailored lines - Property, Liability and Motor Fleet experience (desired)
  • A wide exposure to Commercial and Corporate risks
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability both build relationships and influence at all levels
  • A strategic thinker with an analytical mindset and the ability to problem solve
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
