Reporting in to the Chief Actuary, you will be responsible for leading a team of 7 supporting the Appointed Actuary in the performance and review of insurance liability valuations and monthly reserve updates. 

As Head of Valuation, your responsibilities will include:

  • Project managing preparation of the Financial Condition Report including analysis, commentary and meeting regulatory requirements
  • Perform Insurance Liability Valuations reporting including full valuations, monthly management reporting, group reporting, quarterly APRA, financial statements and Board reporting.  This includes calculation of Premium Liabilities, Outstanding Claims, Risk Margins and LoC information and liaison with External Peer Review Actuary
  • Ensuring planning assumptions and approaches are realistic and achievable in relation to portfolios across the general insurance business
  • Provide inputs as required for the Internal Capital Model and Group Risk Capital models
  • Upgrade valuation processes to accommodate the expanded requirements of IFRS 17 (and manage the expansion of your team to accommodate their expanded role)

To be successful in this role you will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Extensive experience as a General Insurance actuary
  • Demonstrated experience in the performance of Insurance Liability valuations  in accordance with the requirements of the Australian Institute of Actuaries
  • Familiarity with the principles of Capital Modelling and management
  • Familiarity with modern risk management frameworks, processes and practices
  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders 
  • The ability to think strategically with a proactive approach to problem solving
  • The ability to collaborate with senior management across the business
  • Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (or equivalent)
